Wednesday. 10 September Day 3 Oahu Circle Island Tour

Today we enjoyed the Circle Island Tour of Oahu with cousin Dorothy. We passes the Diamond Head lookout. It was called Diamond Head because the natural minerals in the sand look like diamonds.

Our first stop was the blowhole at Hanauma Bay then on past  Sandy Beach . The blowhole was not as impressive as Kiama, however, it was beautiful scenery. We passed Makapuu lighthouse and had scenic stops at Walmanlo and Nuuanu Pali Lookout. We passed on the windward side of Oahu passing North Shore's surfing beaches,  pineapple and coffee fields and macadamia nut farms.

We stopped at the Byodo-In Buddhist Temple which was beautiful and tranquil. We all got to ring the giant bell.

Our lunch stop was at Kualoa Ranch, a working cattle ranch,  which is a 4000 acre site stretching from the Koolau Mountains to the sea. It has varied terrain from picturesque landscapes, valleys, beaches, cliff faces and mountains. Because of its location and terrain it has become a favorite with movie companies. Some of the films shothere include:Raiders of the Lost Ark, Hunger Games -Catching Fire, Pirates of the Caribbean-On Stronger Tides, Jurassic Park, Jurassic World and Finding Nemo.

We could see as good view of the island called Chinaman's Hat named for the many Chinese workers who worked on the site when it was a sugar plantation. We enjoyed the train ride through the ranch even seeing Secret Island where the old television series of Fantasty Island was filmed.

Our next stop was at the Macadamia Hut for Kona coffee and macadamia nut testing and eating then on past the famous surf spots  Sunset Beach and Waimea Bay.

Our last stop was the Dole Pineapple Plantation which specialised in anything pineapple including ice cream.

We then headed back to Waikiki past Schofield Airport and Ioha standium. What a great day.
